Katie the Clunker is back! After two infectons in the left ear this past month, we took her to the ENT specialist in the Med Center last week and turns out the right tube was falling out (Dr. Moses just reached in the ear with some bizarre looking tool and pulled it out), but the tube in the left ear is lodged in the ear drum and a piece of tissue is growing over it (more likfe engulfing the tube within the ear, which is what they don't want to happen). Hence, the tube is not working properly and allowing the ear to drain, which causes the back-up of fluid and infections.
So, Katie just wrapped up a round of Zithromax to knock out the infection and now we administer easr drops in the left year twice a day, which are a steroid and supposed to "relax" the ear drum and naturally push the tube out. We take her back to Dr. Moses in two weeks and if it hasn't resolved itself, the next step will be to have the tube sugrically removed. What fun for the three-year-old!
And then today I am taking her to the lab at the hospital for a CBC test, ordered by the pediatrician. I know it's a routine blood test (and I've done all the reasearch), but still as a parent makes you a little nervous, especially when you hear the words "low hemoglobin and high white blood cells." Will keep everyone posted!
