We just had a parent-teacher conference with Emma's two first grade teachers (who are wonderful) and while Em continues to excel in reading and writing - the girl has is very imaginative in her composition and LOVES to read - she needs a bit of a push in math. She also has been struggling most recently with NOT talking in class and has turned into quite the chatterbox all the time. Let's just say that she gets all of the above honestly - she takes after her Mom in EVERY way (which I tend to think is a good thing :-) ). She is very enthusiastic about learning and school, enjoys all aspects. If she could only learn to be quiet when asked and follow all the rules...We've had several conversations about it, have tried everything in the book to help her curtail her talking and work on proper behavior. Alas, she is only six (will be seven in less than two months, can you believe it?!) and you cannot expect perfection at this age. We are very proud of her and she is such a great kid. Now, please sweetie, STOP TALKING so much!
On a personal note, I went to the Get Motivated seminar at Toyota Center last Monday (Feb. 8) and got to see several professional speakers, including Sarah Palin, Rudy Giuliani, Colin Powell and Lou Holtz, among a few other motivational speakers. All very impressive. I loved the overall message and theme each speaker brought to the table: surround yourself with supportive family and friends who you never take advantage of, always put family first, work hard to earn your way, do what's right, be compassionate to others and don't rely on anyone else to make your life what you make it. Amen!
